With collected useless objects, Thorsten creates works that often hint to old masters and play with the link between signifier and signified.

For years Thorsten Brinkmann (1971 Herne, Germany) has collected ordinary objects and useless objects he found in the city. With these materials he created a diverse oeuvre that moves between the genres of sculpture, photography, performance and installation art.

In his works, Thorsten often hints to compositions by old masters and he plays associatively with art historical references. In these images, the meaning of the object has shifted ground since the link between the signifier and signified is presented as fragile.
