Description

Allium sativum, or garlic, is a delicious and folk-lore-rich member of the alliaceae (onion) family. The flowering stems grow to 60cm but it is the bulb that is most commonly eaten and used medicinally.

Garlic has antiseptic, fungicidal and parasiticidal properties. It can be used to treat candida and vaginitis and chewing a raw clove is said to help ward off colds and sore throats. Pressed, the juice can be applied to wounds. Furthermore, a diet rich in garlic has been shown to be beneficial to the blood system and the heart.
