Skin Hunger

Neo Futurist Breakfast 12 - with Margherita Soldati and Alice Héron

17 Aug 2020
23 Aug 2020

Our need to connect is as fundamental as our need to eat. A warm handshake, a sympathetic hug or a congratulatory pat on the back – even the most simple gestures can mean a lot to us. Being touched makes humans feel calmer, happier, and more sane.

Skin Hunger fulfils the lack of physical contact in our modern times by performing an individual tactile breakfast experience. Artist chef Alice Héron and artist-in-residence Margherita Soldati explore the relationship between tactility and food through a 5 course breakfast experience. Skin Hunger combines massage and breathing exercises with food and bite-size sensorial dishes. We invite you to our intimate waterside greenhouses for your perfect morning.

Neo Futurist Dinners

Skin Hunger is part of the Neo Futurist Dinner series – for the occasion turned into a Neo Futurist Breakfast. Mediamatic invites a number of artists and chefs to present their vision on the food of the future. The dinners allow us to question the ways in which food, art, science and politics intertwine and to rediscover the human basic needs.

Alice Héron

Alice Herón is both artist and chef. She currently works in our Mediamatic ETEN restaurant. In her work she combines food and art with a focus on the way nature is used and consumed. Inspired by growing elements, like plants and fungi, she explores the interaction between design and taste. As globetrotter she is a fan of different cuisines. The techniques that she learned by studying them allow her work to flourish.

Margherita Soldati

Margherita, resident artist at Mediamatic, explores the relationship between objects and substances in our bodies and senses. As a material designer, she focuses specifically on how this relationship impacts human behaviour. In a society very much focused on the visual, she wants to get people to "see" with their other senses. Her research therefore concentrates on people rather than things, resulting in intimate, personal and interactive work.

You can find out more about Margherita's work on her website, or you could join our Open Tour on Fridays at 16.00 to see her pieces on-location.
