Agitation

Abel Heijkamp

Artis invited Abel Heijkamp to exhibit his work along with work by several other activist artists. The work of Abel Heijkamp (1983 Borculo) allows us to seek overlaps and create contrasts in the exhibition. The artist aims to stir up debate on a number of social situations through his work and, therefore, generate change in society.

Abel Heijkamp, Acting Forward - source

It is not the case that art and activism are exclusive of each other but, to the contrary, feed off each other. Heijkamp uses documentation, video and photos to make his views and methods apparent to the public. In addition to his older sculptures, his most recent documentary entitled Vacancy without care is on display. This highlights the lack of rights afforded to anti-squatting house-hunters.

The exhibition also contains work by those that participated in ARTweek 2009;

Leslie Huppert (DE), Colin Peters(NL), Andy Wauman(BE), Ehsan Fardjadniya (IR)Takako Oishi (JAP), Claudia de la Torre(MEX), Branko Miliskovic(YO), Elisabeth Ida(IND), Saron Paz(IL), José Simoes(PT), Koert Jobse (NL), Laura van Hulst (NL) and Liza Salmin(EST).
