Richard Lerman's Travelon Gamelon - Promenade

A concert en route. Bring your bike and come ride with us!

28 mei 2011

Richard Lerman's Travelon Gamelon is a unique musical experience falling somewhere between a concert, a flash mob, and a bicycle race. Bring your bicycle, rig it up, and ride through the streets of Amsterdam as a player in a mobile gamelan.

Richard Lerman's Travelon Gamelon is a unique musical experience falling somewhere between a concert, a flash mob, and a bicycle race. A group of cyclists rig their bicycles up with audio electronics and then ride together through the streets of Amsterdam. The sounds produced by the natural resonances and rhythmic qualities of the bicycle creates a musical effect surprisingly similar to a traditional Balinese gamelan.

Riders of all ages 12 and up are welcome to join the performance. Cost of signing up is free, you just need to bring your own bicycle with metal spokes (plastic doesn't work).

Our route will start at Frederiksplein, near STEIM, at 11:30 sharp. There Richard will teach everyone how to wire their bicycles up to make music.
At 13h we will embark on a tour of Amsterdam's downtown areas, culminating in a walking performance on Dam square.

There will only be enough equipment for 20 bicycles, so sign up soon!
Registration can be done through the registration link at the top of this page.
