Officina Corpuscoli

Officina Corpuscoli, founded by Maurizio Montalti in 2010, is a young transdisciplinary design practice, focusing on the role of the designer, as a bridge between different fields of action: science, society, art, industry. The studio’s work touches relevant issues, such as the role which design could play in a bio-tech revolution in relation to sustainability, and to the novel possibilities that this marriage of disciplines could create in a future society.

The fascination for the micro-scale, together with a holistic vision of the world as a macro-organism and a strong belief in symbiotic relationships are some of the main drives of Officina Corpuscoli. Through such explorations one of the primary aims of the studio is questioning common behaviour and provoking critical thinking. In such way, design is used as a tool and a strategy for questioning culture.

The methodology consists of creating deep, analytical research, both theoretical and practical (hands-on), in order to be able to find novel inspirations, creating new perspectives and unprecedented thoughts, which, through multiple communicative media, will end up as innovative design outcomes.

By directly collaborating with scientists, researchers and organizations, Officina Corpuscoli has been developing works and creative research that look at the study of fungal organisms for the development of design-related applications, ranging from new materials to innovative techniques, aiming to shift the current paradigm of production to the one of “organic” growth.

Officina Corpuscoli is currently operating, providing creative consultancy and developing both Conceptual and Commercial works, often being inspired by living systems and organisms. Amongst other places, the studio’s work has been exhibited at the Triennale Design Museum, Audax Textiel Museum, Naturalis Leiden, Mediamatic.

Officina Corpuscoli is currently based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
