Portuguese dinner

Prepared by cook Carlos Portela

29 jun 2013

Enjoying an authentic Portuguese dinner, listening to some music, having another beer and simply relax. As a starter we served shrimp and veggie rissoles, a bowl of Algarve gazpacho cleansed your palate, and for the main course you had a choice of Alho Francês à Brás or Bacalhau à Brás, potato dishes with respectively vegetables or salt cod. Dessert was an egg pudding. Price: €12,50 ex membership).

Vergroot

Tomato or chicken soup? - Up in Amman it was cold and wintry, yet a few kilometers to the down by the Dead Sea, it was warm and sunny, like a European summer, people were even swimming/floating on the sea. These tomatoes were being grown in the fields by the side of the road. Picture found on Flickr, made by Charles Roffey.

A few questions for Carlos

What can people expect from you?

A relaxed Portuguese dinner with some nice music. The kind of dinner that I would prepare for my friends on a Saturday.

When did you start cooking?

When I was about 11 or 12 years old. My mother and grandmother taught me.

What is your favorite dish?

All kinds of Mediterranean dishes, although I am a vegetarian.

What kind of food do you like to prepare?

Normally I like to prepare dishes that I would like to eat myself. But sometimes if I am looking for something different to cook I'll search for new recipes that I recreate with my personal touch.

What is the fun part or most important part for you in cooking?

I like to make people happy with my food. For that I always try to cook with time and care.
