Dr. Cretien van Campen
The synesthesia expert of the Netherlands. He is the founder of Synesthetics Netherlands. He is best known for his work on synesthesia in art, including historical reviews of how artists have used synesthetic perceptions to produce art, and studies of perceived quality of life, in particular of how people with health problems perceive their living conditions in the context of health and social care services.
Dr. Laura Speed
Is there a linguistic interpretation for synesthesia? Dr. Laura Speed is researcher (psycho-linguistics) at the Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen working on the linguistic explanation of synesthesia opposed to a genetic or cultural component. Is there a link between odour and higher levels of cognition, such as language? For example, how can the perception of odours be influenced by contextual factors, such as verbal labels and descriptions
Amy Toner is a choreographer that teaches children to dance according scents, so to say smell-movement synesthesia. She will tell us about her practice but she will also invite us to try for ourselves. We will get a sneak preview of her upcoming performance. Prepare to learning to dance with your nose.
Dana El Masri
Can music inspire and connect to certain scents? For Dana it definitely can! Working with her gut instinct (and being a synesthete) Dana creates perfumes based on music. She takes in consideration the transformative quality of ingredients and composes her music-perfume piece. Does it have a rhythm? Is it harmonious? Dana send us 4 samples from her brand Jazmin Saraï that we will smell accompanied by the music that inspired her.
