Whiteness

Lightness week 2 with Rob Sweere

7 mei 2014
11 mei 2014

Rob Sweere's week of lightness incorporated different projects that made you float on water, air and even soundwaves. From Wednesday May 7 it was possible to visit his Silent City, made of different huge inflatables that could be entered. The smaller sculptures of the project Instamatic invited you to take up the sculptures and pose with them for picture taking. The gigantic Drone 2.0 gave the experience of floating on sound. And ferry boat Heaven sailed on the water in front of Mediamatic.

Vergroot

19-06-2014 Drone Camping - Drone Camping toont de enorme opblaasbare objecten en geluidsdrone van Rob Sweere, in combinatie met werk van Sarah van Sonsbeeck en Jimmy Cauty. Een ruimte vol objecten waar je in kunt stappen, waarin je je kunt verstoppen, en waar je mee kunt spelen. Ook is er de kans om drones te laten vliegen in onze expositieruimte. Rob Sweere

Silent City

With a Silent City made of huge inflatables, that can be entered and looked through, Sweere made you feel like you were looking through a wormhole.

Drone 2.0

Sweere was in the process of building a gigantic Drone 2.0 made out of wood, the sound of which has later on made the Mediamatic Fabriek shake. The soundwaves were generated by Mars F. Wellink – based on the voice of Rob Sweere – and gave the experience of floating. Drone 2.0 was based on the idea found in many world religions... in the beginning there was sound.

Instamatic

The shapes and forms of the Silent City returned in the smaller sculptures of Instamatic. This was a project in which you were invited to take up the sculptures and pose with them for a picture, like if you were a classical sculpture yourself. From Instamatic (the old Kodak camera) to Instagram!

Heaven

Finally there was the project called Heaven: a pontoon like barge boat on the water in front of Mediamatic. You were invited to lay on it and watch the heavens above.

Lightness

In an age where everyone is affected by the weight of society, the overbearing fears of the economy and the heavy hand of government, 'lightness' is the way forward. We let go of the material and celebrated the ethereal with 11 weeks of 'lightness'. Each week Mediamatic invited a new artist to question the meaning of 'lightness'.
