A taste of nature at Red Rocks - Image taken from The New Zealand National Society of Scenery and Landscapes

Red Rocks and its surrounding reserve are of national significance, rich with fascinating geology and Maori history. Red Rocks (Pari-whero) was formed 200 million years ago during below-sea volcanic eruptions.

Further around from Red Rocks is a 'haul out' area for New Zealand fur seals at Sinclair Head (seals visible from May to October). The Reserve is within Te Kopahau Reserve (see Walks, Reserves and Parks for details).
