Jos de Haan (1960) is head of the research group Time, media and Culture of the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP) in the Hague, the Netherlands. He got his PhD in sociology from Utrecht University (thesis: Research groups in Dutch sociology). His current research deals with participation in culture, media and ICT. Recent publications into the spread, use and consequences of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) include investigations of the digital divide, of digital skills and internet safety among the young and of the rise of e-culture. He is editor of the Dutch yearbook ICT and Society and published in several English journals a.o. in It&Society (www.stanford.edu/group/siqss/itandsociety/).
