Bas has a background in Neurosciences but decided that working in this field would not bring him happiness. After his studies he started working at Gollem on the Overtoom, a well known Belgian beer bar in Amsterdam, to contemplate on the future. Here he followed the first two levels of StiBON (Stichting Bier Opleiding Nederland), a Dutch course to become beer sommelier. At Gollem he realized that working with food and drinks would definitely bring him happiness and that this could be a possibility in the first place! He told to himself that he would like to work at a brewery and also said that he’d prefer to work at Oedipus because of its flavor first philosophy, its informal feel and its colorful world. He felt at home immediately at finished the third and final level of StiBON in Austria. Since then he can call himself one of the +/- 250 beer sommeliers in the Netherlands.
At Oedipus he is responsible for the curation of the drinks in their bar and restaurant, pairing of beer with food and internal training of their employees. He loves to inspire people with new flavors!
