“Survivor”, bloomed in May 1945, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. All her sisters were made into stew or cookies during the hongerwinter. She was lucky to have hidden between the roots of a forsythia tree. When she finally rose from the dirt, she and others witnessed the miracle of a spring long awaited.
