Spindle Ermine Caterpillar

Yponomeuta cagnagella. Took over the Spindle bushes behind the Twijfel Zaaien grow beds from late April to early June.

The caterpillars of the Spindle Ermine moth create a communal silk nest that wraps around a whole tree or bush. They will feed on this plant until they are ready to cocoon, eating all the foliage. The tree might look dead during this process, however it is not, and it completely recovers once the moths hatch and fly away.

European Garden Spider

Araneus diadematus. Spotted on one of the Twijfel Zaaien grow beds during a communal gardening session in May.
These are freshly hatched European Garden Spider babies. By summer these spiders will have reached adulthood and have spread all over the biotoop, weaving webs everywhere, including the Serres.
