The traditional Wood-Fired Clay Ovens are made from raw natural ingredients like straw and leem; a combination of sand and clay. This material is environmentally friendly, fire-resistant, easy to shape and non-toxic: a perfect fit for an oven. In this workshop we will join forces and construct one oven from the ground up. Would you like to learn how to build the natural way? Lets play, build, cook and learn it together.

For whom?

This hands on workshop is recommended for all bakers, designers and chefs who are interested in physically building a Wood-Fired Clay Oven.

Over the course of two days you will construct a complete earth oven from scratch. By doing so you will gain ample understanding of the building methods, requirements and usage of clay as a raw material. Christo will also explain how to safely use such an oven and maybe share some of his finer pizza and sourdough bread recipes.

Day 1

09:00 - Welcome and introduction with coffee & tea
10:00 - Placing the oven floor and how to make a sand mold
12:30 - Lunch (not included, please bring your own)
13:35 - Masoning the clay dome and fire-resistant arc
15:30 - Break with Coffee & tea
15:45 - 17:00 Continue with dome

Day 2

09:00 - Coffee & Tea
09:30 - Finishing off the dome (start with isolation)
12:30 - Lunch (please bring your own)
13:35 - Removing the sand mold and adding an insulation layer and stucco.
Questions and Answers. How to fire the oven and bake?
17:00 - End of the workshop. Let's have a beer!

The oven will be built inside our glass house at the waterside.
