Presentation:

Designing the human body

Biotalk 13 - with Agi Haines and Isaac Monté

15 okt 2015

What are the possibilities of using the human body as everyday material? How far can we modify our organs? And how will we respond to these changes? Both speakers of this Biotalk are fascinated by the many possibilities for future designs of the human body. They explore this through manipulating and speculating the inner and outer beauty.

Beers and bites at 18.00. Talk started at 20:00.

Agi Haines

What if we could print skin? Or create new organs? Agi Haines’ work is focused on the design of the human body. How might people respond to the possibilities of our body as another everyday material and how far can we push our malleable bodies while still being accepted by society? Agi made a series of speculative organs that are Frankenstein-esque hybrid and have new functions. This and more about her work during the Biotalk.

Isaac Monté

For his latest project Isaac Monté is manipulating pig-hearts. Together with the VU Department of Ecological Science he takes discarded pig hearts and transform them into elegant vessels for new life. For example by tattooing the hearts. Isaac and Toby Kiers aim to explore how biological interventions and aesthetic manipulation can be used as tools for the ultimate deception: the transformation of inner beauty, from grotesque to perfect.
