Mini arts festival marks anniversary
The Duivenvoorde Night is a mini arts festival that lasts an evening in and around Duivenvoorde Castle, perfectly situated on the border between Voorschoten and Wassenaar. For 8 centuries, this historic site has through inheritance remained in family hands. Now, in 2010, there are still descendants of the original inhabitants living here. This is unique.

Since 1960, the castle and the surrounding estate have been joined together in one foundation. Parts of the castle and estate have been opened for the general public. In 2010, the foundation is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of special activities. This festival as museum night is one of them.

Contemporary art and farmers banquet in ancient surroundings
Art plays a vital role during the Duivenvoorde Night. On one of the longest days of the year, while the evening sun gives way to the moon, the castle and the estate will become the exceptional setting for a mix of art, music, walkshops and diner. The program begins with a farmers banquet in an old barn, and ends with music in the ballroom of the castle, with contributions from renowned artists and musicians.

Master of ceremony is radio and television presenter Andrew Makkinga (NPS/VPRO). The park will be open all evening, and there are temporary installation and performances of renowned artists as Amie Dicke, Gabriel Lester, Michael Portnoy, Sarah van Sonsbeeck and John Lonsdale. Artist, writer and amateur detective Hans Aarsman will reveil the inner workings of the unique collection of family portraits. Journalist and fashion icon Aynouk Tan (NRC) will review the attire of the inhabitants. There will be music by Saelors, Machinefabriek, Wouter van Veldhoven and Koen Nutters. And with the coming of dusk the forrest comes alive and will become one giant symphony of nature.

The night is directed by Michiel van Iersel and Juha van 't Zelfde, who a.o. programmed for the Museumnacht Amsterdam and North Sea Jazz Festival.
