Peter Berz

New Media Philosopher

Born in Augsburg in 1959 Berz studied philosophy and germanic studies in Vienna, Freiburg and Hamburg.

He has written works on Robert Musil, on the Great War and its techniques, on the history of the German Institute for Standardization. He took his Ph.D. with a thesis on automated standardization around 1900. From 1995 through 1999 he was faculty co-researcher in the project History and Systematics of Digital Media.
He is co-publisher of selected writings by american media theorist Claude Elwood Shannon and works as a faculty assistant at the Institute for Aesthetics and History of Media of the Humboldt University in Berlin
