Official opening Amsterdam Biennale
Pavilions of Kabul, Naples, Amsterdam, Munich, Melbourne, Belgrade, Tallinn & Brooklyn
On Friday the 16th of October at 20:00 hrs the Amsterdam Biennale officially took off at Mediamatic. There was a live perfomance of Firestone and DJ Margit (Tallinn), DJ Katja Novi (Tallinn, Amsterdam) & DJ Velović (Belgrade, Amsterdam).

The official opening of the biennale featured the following pavilions: Naples, curated by Diana Marrone, Kabul, curated by Robert Kluijver, Belgrade, curated by Isidora Krstic, Melbourne, curated by Helen Grogan, Tallinn, curated by Margit Sade, Munich, curated by Sascha Glasl, Brooklyn, curated by Caroline Woolard, and Amsterdam1, curated by Femke Dekker and Amsterdam2, curated by DUS architects.
Each of the curators built a pavilion that measures 6' x 6' x 7' and is made of either bamboo, styrofoam (EPS), honeycomb cardboard or printable fabric. The curators decide about the design and content of the pavilions.
The opening was in the presence of some of the curators and artists.
Amsterdam Biennale 2009
The Amsterdam Biennale 2009 presents the contemporary art scene from all over the world. More than thirty international curators from the Mediamatic network provide their view of art in their city.
The Biennale is an exhibition in progress. New pavilions will be built every week. This means there will be an opening every week during this period. Keep an eye on the website for the latest news about upcoming openings. From 17 October 2009 until 13 December 2009.
