Opening of Agence LeJournal Photo Exhibition
Established in 2012 by Emin Özmen, Agence LeJournal is a network of photojournalists that bears the responsibility to document and storify the tragedies and victories of humanity by witnessing the occasions in the front lines. Agence LeJournal is putting on an exhibition of Özmen's Gezi pictures. Join us for the opening at 17:00, or for a panel discussion on new forms of journalism with Özmen and others at 15:00. Özmen's first documentary film will also be premiering today.
Özmen is responsible for much of the development of Turkish photo journalism. He gained international recognition with his depiction of the Somalian draught and the Syrian Civil War for which he received a World Press Photo award. After his photo's repeatedly being rejected by mainstream Turkish media, he founded his own agency, Agence LeJournal. His works have been published a.o. in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, El Pais.
Location: Mediamatic Fabriek, VOC-kade 10, Oostenburg Amsterdam. Entrance free. Opening at 17:00. This exhibition takes place within PARK, a larger bottom-up exhibition and research space that explores the core concerns of the Gezi protests. After the panel discussion there will be a full program featuring live music, food, art, film and more. Find out more here.
