Cabinodd's first exhibition in the new gallery space is featuring the remarkable series The Truth About Germans by young and talented German artist Kirsten Wilmink.

Kirsten Wilmink has recently graduated in Photographic Design at the AKI ArtEZ academy for fine art and is continuing her studies at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. Her work has received two awards at the Photo Academy Award 2009. The Truth About Germans is an exciting and humoristic representation of the existing prejudices about German people in which she used her own family members as models. The result is inevitably astonishing and funny, leaving room for contemplation about what really is true or false.

Her work has received two awards at the Photo Academy Award 2009, combined with a traveling exhibition in Den Haag, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Groningen and Antwerp. She has also been nominated for the YoungBlood and Art Olive Award 2009. As a cross media designer Kirsten Wilmink’s main focus is staged photography. Her graduation project The Truth About Germans is an exciting and humoristic representation of the existing prejudices about German people in which she used her own family members as models. The most common stereotypes about Germans represented by the clothing, accessories, locations, postures and facial expressions are directed, photographed and exaggerated in great detail. Kirsten Wilmink’s The Truth About Germans is inevitably astonishing and funny, leaving room for contemplation about what really is true or false.

With the recent move to the new space, designed by SeARCH architects Bjarne Mastebroek and Uda Visser, Cabinodd has opened a headquarters with an exciting gallery concept. The Cabinodd gallery is hosting various exhibitions, open to new and professional art collectors on appointment. Cabinodd aims to show cutting edge artworks by different national and international artists representing various styles and movements. In the midst of the dynamic art and culture area Roombeek, Cabinodd has created a place where art collectors can set up and expand their collection. How does it work? During the exhibitions Cabinodd is hosting various gatherings and opportunities to see the exhibition and get acquainted with the represented artists. Outside the gatherings the exhibitions can be viewed on appointment. If you are interested in attending the gatherings simply subscribe to the mailing list (see Contact) and you will receive the invitations.
