Noord as seen from the Central Station. The most advanced headland has been under Amsterdams jurisdiction for some time. A long time ago this was used a gallows for those that were sentenced to death. Much later they used this area as a recreational park for the wealthy and now they are developing this area into a place for luxurious apartments and cultural institutions. The structure in the left of the picture is the new film museum that will open in 2011. More to the right is the old Shell laboratory tower and the red brick Shell Grootlab building, that are waiting for a new temporary maybe cultural function. On the right is the Tolhuistuin, a cultural center that will also open in 2011. A long time ago the gallows were situated here as a means to detere criminals.
