In Smart Cinema, Richard Linklater's 'Waking Life' and Lynch's 'Mulholland Drive'.

Waking Life (2001, USA, 100 min.), the latest film from director Richard Linklater (The Newton Boys, and Suburbia) is less a film and more series of conversations. It takes place within the confines of a dream, where ideas reverberate between people and things make sense while making no sense. This is a film that requires people to pay acute attention to what the actors say on screen. The experience is like listening to people debating philosophy on a college campus. However, the first attention grabber is the animation.

Mulholland Drive (2001, USA, 145 min.) was originally a pilot for an ABC TV series that never got picked up. The story focuses on a woman who is abandoned on Mulholland Drive after a car accident and has amnesia. She stumbles into the apartment of a wanna-be actress who helps her piece her life together.
