The Baanderij has been used since 1957 as office, assembly hall and canteen of the NDSM-wharf. Now the IJ-Kantine is located in this building. Open from 9 a.m.

The IJ-Kantine is a cheerful and a modern decorated brasserie, situated by the water of the NDSM yard. The Baanderij, as the building used to be called, is a part of the shipbuilding history in Amsterdam. The canteen was the favourite meeting place for lunch for the board of directors of the NDSM-wharf as well for the ordinary labourers, but they had their own staircases on both sides of the building so they wouldn’t meet each other. (source: ijkantine.nl) Nowadays it’s a mix of people working around there having lunch and people passing by enjoying coffee, high tea or dinner. Every Sunday afternoon there is live Jazz!
