Mycelium panel properties

Fire resistance test

An essential characteristic for a insulating panel should be fire resistance, so we tested our samples to check how good they are against fire.

Insulating panel fire resistance test - Mycelium of grey oyster grown on wheat chaff is held extinguishing! Barbara Pollini

The experiment was pretty successful because, as you can see from the picture, the fire just burned on the outside of the panel, while the inside is untouched. One of the properties of the mycelium is to be flameproof, so the more it colonises the substrate the more the panel will increase its fire resistant properties.
