Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer (The Wanderer above the Sea of Fog) is a painting by the German painter Caspar David Friedrich from circa 1817, oil on canvas, 94.8 x 74.8 centimetres in size. It shows a man seen from behind, looking away from a high rock over a sea of fog towards the mountains surrounding him. The canvas is considered exemplary for German Romanticism.
