Ton Denters is an urban ecologist and specialist of Dutch flora, author of the reference book Stadsflora van de Lage Landen and The urban district, a biogeographical acquisition.
Denters describes urban areas as mature ecosystems with specific urban wildlife adapted to locations with constant buzz or surprising tranquillity and its development. He makes an inventory of measures to improve its quality. Denters (1994) established the ‘urban district’ as an accepted bio-geographical district amongst other districts distinguished in Dutch floristic research. He published a beautiful field guide for the urban community Based on extensive fieldwork in Amsterdam (1994, 1998) and later in urban areas all over the Netherlands and Belgium (1999).
