Kranen/Gille

Jos Kranen (Tegelen, The Netherlands, 1977) and Johannes Gille (Marburg, Germany, 1979) met during their education at Design academy Eindhoven.

Origins:
Founded in 2007 by Jos Kranen and Johannes Gille, Kranen/Gille is a design studio based in the south of the Netherlands. Kranen and Gille, who met during their education at Design Academy Eindhoven always seek to combine various disciplines, craftsmanship and their own particular aesthetics into appealing design objects. All their pieces seem to breathe industrial revolution with a whiff of natural structures reminiscent of the photography of Karl Blossfeldt.

Sustainability:
We believe in honest responsibility. Designers are constantly challenged, especially since they are bringers of the new and thus shunning the old. No matter how you put it, this inflicts damage to our environment, damage that has to be reduced but is inevitable. We are aware of this and always try to reduce this damage. To us sustainability is not an aesthetic aspect, but is about products that stand the test of time. In the event of a more provisional product we make sure it can be tore down or recycled. Both in material and in concept we strive to make the eventual cost to the environment more than worthwhile. To get an idea of what we are talking about please have a look at www.manufactum.de and it’s ‘Magazin’ division.
