Mushroom Tasting Workshop

Discover, taste, and learn to cook 'em!

20 Oct 2011

Natascha Rothengatter, who runs Portabella at the Noordermarkt, will tell us all you need to know about the different mushroom species, as well as chat about the best way to prepare them. Join us and boost your kitchen skills and mushroom knowledge! Please note that the workshop language will be Dutch. That said, let your taste buds do the talking and join us no matter what your mother tongue might be.

What's going to happen?

First, Natascha will tell us more about the mushrooms we'll be tasting. After the presentation we will go ahead and taste the mushrooms, some raw, others cooked. Natascha will ask you about the taste and structure of the 'shrooms, and we'll talk about which mushrooms suit what dishes. Would you incorporate almond mushrooms in a sweet cake, or in a spicy Biryani? Or both? After this workshop your mushroom know-how will impress even the toughest crowd, and your new-found kitchen skills will keep you from going hungry for the rest of your life. We'll be washing the 'shrooms down with some nice wines or, if you prefer, a cold beer.

Who?

This workshop is hosted by Natascha Rothengatter of Portabella. Every weekend Natascha runs a stall at the Noordermarkt with a big variety of really fresh mushrooms. Read more about her on her website.

Varieties

Natascha will bring a selection of fresh, dried and wild mushrooms to taste. Which types depend on the weather and what she's able to get.
