SPSound serves up a course of Electronic Dub to keep you warm on a frosty Friday night. Come treat yourself to a helping of dark, hypnotic beats out of Berlin and London.

Pole
Pole (~scape, Berlin) works towards a minimalist essence by stripping layer after layer of sound. For Pole, aka Stefan Betke, musical reductionism isn’t repetitive or deterministic; it involves constant motion around an ideal core – the smallest possible unit. His music is not based in a scene or private experience, but in musical structures, which he then decontextualizes in order to integrate them into his own personal musical language. With sets ranging from Jazz and Minimal music to Dub and Hip Hop, Pole uses a warm, groovy and elastic sound, but never loses himself in dance floor functionality,.Heard as sound-architecture and narrative, his music it is not predicated on anything or prefacing anything – it is a timeless artistic achievement.

Lukid
Lukid (Luke Blair) makes Rubik's Cube-like compositions that twist in a broad spectrum of elements to create Hip Hop-founded Electronics. His pieces relish the use of dust-encrusted loops, laser-tag beats and sea-sick rhythms. Under the Lukid moniker, Blair’s two artist albums to date, On and On and Foma (both released on Werk Discs), are overtly stylistic. They lean back into their slower Hip Hop tempo and heavy, sample-based melodics with the knowing, cross-armed and cock-necked slump of a contently stoned six-foot plus rude boy.

DJ Freek Fabricius
