P.A.R.T.S., the modern dance school presided over by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in Brussels, is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year. Undeniably, many previous students of the school, who have taken up their place in the dance scene since 1998, keep blowing a fresh wind through contemporary dance, even though their work cannot be pinned down to a shared style or approach. The school’s biennial final projects bring along with them a promise ever more difficult to realize: what will become of these keen modern dance makers?

Twenty-four dancers, choreographers and dance makers, who went to Brussels for their training and are rounding off their four-year course of studies at the end of June, present their work in three different programmes. These young dance makers are true all-rounders, happy to glean their material from pure dance, improvisation, performance and the world around us. A refreshing kaleidoscope of modesty and ambition, stillness and turbulence, philosophy and camp, and just as often something in between.

P.A.R.T.S. won the first Silver Lion in Venice. The Silver Lion for Dance is an award in recognition of the performing artists of coming generations. The jury stated that P.A.R.T.S. scores not only in the field of development of dancing skills, but is actively in search of an artistic identity.
