Emily Kocken and Isa Andreu are interested in the therapeutic qualities of dogs and their almost mystic influence on human beings, but foremost in how the affective relationship between owners and dogs can be visualized in the public space of the city. For their residency at rhizomatic they will ritualize daily routines of dogs and owners in the city district Amsterdam-Noord – Mosplein.

Around this area they will research the affective network created between the pet shops and its customers, especially dog owners. The pet shop is not only a local centre of commerce, it is a safe space for sheltering shared affection. In Noord these shops function as important communal havens.

“Not only do we want to explore this network of relationships in this specific part of the city, we also want to involve others in this relationship otherwise mostly visible to fellow dog owners, by creating tableau vivants in the pet shops windows. By bringing the street to the shop, and shifting the regulated behavior into a confined show case space as the shop and its window, owner and dog can shine in a statuesque performance, for any passerby to be witnessed for free.” Isa Andreu & Emily Kocken
