Eschewing a singular theme, legacy or kinship, and determined instead by a critical engagement with artists’ processes, Le Societas! could be said to take the form of an unifying but open dialogue, a paradoxical notion intended to critically engage with the very shifting nature of the parameters of community.
In all the works presented, the artists theorize less about their own relationship to legacy rather in their production create a discourse inside it. Some of the projects offer arbitrary collage of history, while others trigger poetic translations of a fictitious past. By vividly addressing community, society and networks in building relationships with their past these dialogic works pose compelling questions about the present.
