Fashion Machine

The fashion industry: a beautiful but polluting business. The fast pace of clothing production accounts for devastating amounts of material and immaterial consumption, resulting in the misuse of water, chemicals and (child) labour. How to deal with this tempting but harmful situation? Conny Groenewegen sets out to visualise its enormity by transforming fashion's leftovers into art that takes over our immediate habitat. To showcase their work at Mediamatic by the end of summer 2017, Conny, the FAMA team and volunteers knitted giant fleece banners that slowly engulfed our headquarters by using a special hand-knitting technique. This project reflects the impact of fast throw-away fashion on you, your environment and our world. It was held until 8 October 2017.
