Ruilen was an exhibition and series of events. Bring the pants you can't get on alone, the games you always lose, and the books that made you cry but no longer do. And you could exchange them for something new. A form of social shopping without spending money. Mediamatic Fabriek relieved you of your unwanted Christmas gifts and shameful purchases. You could even swap massages and haircuts. Click here for the categories within which you were able to trade. Ruilen was opened from Wednesday till Sunday, 13.00 till 18.00 and a swapping event each Sunday.

Ruilen also showed work by artists who question and explore the practice of exchange.Lina Issa, for instance, in the framework of her ongoing project What if, if I take your place?, asked you to hand over part of your life. And Time Divisia showed the longterm exchange between prisoners from Mexico City and the Mexican artist Antonio Vega Macotela. Click here for the contributing artists and their work.

Ruilen was an exhibition and a series of events held from October 20 till January 6. Entrance was free for members. You could get a membership, which gave you free entrance for a month, by doing a chore like an hour of barkeeping or half an hour of vacuum cleaning. Otherwise it was €5,-. Kids half price.
