Ignite Amsterdam 30

12 presentations x 5 minutes

25 Sep 2013

We spent the summer rummaging around project sites, virtual domains and art schools in search of the freshest ideas. And filled our pockets with Drone It Yourself kits, a famous shoe, smalltime photography, Farming the City, AR-coding, the Dutch post-punk music genre ULTRA and more. Dinner at 19:00, the first speaker kicks off at 20:30. Get your tickets online in advance to save a few euros.

Audience at Ignite #30 -

Ignite is run by locals, for locals. Fast-paced and merciless, speakers get five minutes to present, making use of twenty slides that auto-advance every fifteen seconds. All presentations are given in English.

Francesca Miazzo

Based in Amsterdam, Cities connects urban explorers across Europe to think about urban life, policy and practice. Francesca, one of Cities' co-founders, will talk about the foundation's research. Or, in their own words: "We simply want to make clear, with some good images and a bit of humor, what we like about cities..."

Ricarda Franzen

Every now and then a minute-or-so-long audio fragment appears on Hard//hoofd. These docu-fictions are collages of found statements and sounds, removed from their context to become something new. Tonight Ricarda will tell you more about this and other sound work.

Lisa Goudsmit

Having wrestled with Jan Jansen's famous Bamboo Shoe for her MA thesis (Design Cultures, VU Amsterdam), Lisa rewrote her research into a book published by NAi/010 as part of Design Stories, a series of books on iconic Dutch design objects.

Renato Osoy

Renato's work is concerned with the everyday. He photographs and films moments of simple passing, thereby magnifying what would perhaps otherwise happen unseen, but without fetishizing the trivial.

Jonathan Karpathios

Jonathan is the owner and head chef of Vork & Mes, located in Hoofddorp. Vork & Mes grows all its own veggies, in an abandoned glass house in the lee of Schiphol. Without pesticides or added heating. Tonight Jonathan will present his soon to be published book, Echt Eten.

Harold Schellinx

In the early 1980s the music genre Ultra reigned in the Netherlands. Youth center Oktopus (Keizersgracht, Amsterdam) hosted dozens of bands who were part of the post-punk, experimental pop scene. The musician/writer/artist/mathematician Harold Schellinx' Ultra is a tribute to these years in the form of stories, interviews and pictures. The book was published by Lebowski.
