Styling homies in the hood

Streetwise young creatives will strut their stuff in Amsterdam from 26 to 29 July at the first Streetlab festival. More than 100 designers and artists, with a few filmmakers, photographers and DJs thrown in, will show and perform their work at the event, which takes place during Amsterdam International Fashion Week.

Dutch fashion designers sending models down the catwalk on Friday 27 July include Emily Hermans, Bas Kosters and Ursula Pelt. DJ Wannabeastar and Miss B-Have will host the affair. Musical guests including Meubel Stukken and DJ Joost van Bellen will get the party pumping. Future stars from the Dutch fashion academies will also unveil their collections over the weekend. On Saturday 28 July, designers and brands from abroad including Denmark's WoodWood, Sweden’s So Last Season and Germany’s Smeilinener will seize the spotlight. Iceland’s Steed Lord will perform their crunk electro house music. A special edition of the hip-hop party DirtyDirtyDirty will follow the show.

During the festival, street artists including Laser 3.14 and Sandder, Niels Popkema and Bitches in Control, Germany’s Klub 7, and SONIK from the USA will create work live in the Westerpark. The outdoor programme will also boast music, outdoor skating and BMX demonstrations and films.

The festival will feature expert-led workshops and master classes. A jury will choose the winning T-shirt in the Streetlab Design Contest . And the touring exhibition Sneaker Pimps will display its more than 1,000 one-of-a-kind pairs.

A Thursday night party at Flex Bar will kick off the festival.
