The ambiguity of the sculptures manifests itself in the strange features of the Stargazers and the illusorily qualities of the material. The figures stand motionless joined by their fascination for the space above. They are captivated by the attraction of the starry sky reflecting their solidarity in the signs of the zodiac. The monochrome appearance of the Stargazers, combined with the illusorily use of material, causes a surprising effect in which the softness and hardness are intermingled.
Mandersloot’s dreamlike figures of the Stargazers are ready to be discovered. The visitors of Art Amsterdam cannot escape being gazed upon by these mysterious sculptures. And the stars cannot help but gaze in return.
