The new location is dominated by a huge pile of recycled clothing, sewing machines, Fong Leng dresses for inspiration, shows, performances and workshops. The old ABN bank at the Vijzelstraat 68 in Amsterdam will be transformed into a World Fashion Centre.
Me! Me! Me! is an interactive exhibition on self representation on the internet and fashion. On the far reaching consequences of modern communication and on our self image and the way we experience the world around us. The exhibition also highlights our own cultural potential with a minimal ecological footprint. Poverty is ECO!
Like all our projects at Mediamatic this one will have a big component of DIY, do-it-yourself. Make-your-own vintage fashion workshops with Andrea Crews. Buy your retro basics by the kilo. Take catwalk lessons with choreographer Martin Butler and super model Kim Vos. Shoot your own fashion photo's. Or use the catwalk video-booth to film yourself and publish it on the net.
Location and timings
Mediamatic (please mind the new location!), Duintjer CS, Vijzelstraat 68, 1017 HL Amsterdam
Me! Me! Me! will be open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12.00 to 20.00. Admission is free. We will have regularly special programs as well. Check up to date program on www.mediamatic.net/fashion
Mediamatic doesn't take no for an answer
The (e-)culture institution Mediamatic is active on the edge of new media, art and society. The survival of Mediamatic is seriously threatened. A 66% cut in subsidies is looming for the institution that succesfully launched the Arabic El HEMA project. Despite a very positve advice of the national Council for Culture Mediamatic is likely to stick to a subsidy of 229.000 euro, instead of the 666.000 euro that was originally advised by the Council for Culture.
But we don't take a no for an answer and take direct action:
• On 28 and 29 June Mediamatic gives away all it's books, and asks the public to take care of the books (distributed library),
• For the new exhibition Mediamatic dresses the visitors in rags but nevertheless teaches them to look good.
• After the summer Mediamatic starts with a global travel agency to the Cultural Underground.

PS. Don't freak out of the Google Ads on our website, we are practicing cultural profit!
