Kaiser Kuo

Strategy Director, Ogilvy China

Kaiser Kuo is group director, digital strategy, for Ogilvy China. Before joining Ogilvy, he served as China bureau chief for Red Herring, a leading Silicon Valley-based technology business magazine, where he covered the business of technology in China and elsewhere in East Asia.

Previously, he also worked as Creative Director for two wireless companies, Mobile Internet Games and Nasdaq-listed Linktone, where he created successful mobile game concepts; and as Editor-in-Chief for the multi-city online guide ChinaNow.com. Kaiser serves on the board of advisors of design and product innovation firm Touch360, and belongs to the Global Business Network's network of "Remarkable People."

Kaiser holds a BA in Political Science from U.C. Berkeley and an MA in East Asian Studies from the University of Arizona. Co-founder of China's first and most successful Heavy Metal band, Tang Dynasty, he remains active in the music scene, performing and recording with his band Chunqiu (Spring & Autumn), for which he plays lead guitar, and also plays bass with the Beijing-based AC/DC tribute band Dirty Deeds. Born in upstate New York and raised in Arizona, Kaiser is a self-described "lifer" in China who has already spent well over a dozen years in China. He now lives in Beijing with his wife and two young children. When he's not playing music or enjoying family life, he chronicles his life in Beijing in the popular back page column of English-language magazine that's Beijing—a column which, like his personal blog, is called "Ich Bin Ein Beijinger."
