Canine Art Tour

In recent years, art tours and exhibitions for dogs have become increasingly more popular, with several museums and galleries around the world offering canine-friendly programming. These tours are design to allow dogs and their owners to experience art together in a safe and enjoyable way. Typically, the exhibitions feature works that are dog-friendly, with low hanging pieces, interactive installations, and works with auditory or olfactory components.

Nieuw Dakota
A recent and local example is the Art tour for dogs by the contemporary art space Nieuw Dakota. The gallery features both emerging and established arts, and showcases a diverse range of contemporary art forms, including painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and new media. Nieuw Dakota is committed to fostering critical discourse and engaging with pressing social issues through its exhibitions and programming. In additions to its exhibitions, the gallery also hosts artist talks, lectures, screenings, and other events that encourage community engagement with contemporary art.

Art tour for dogs
On Saturday the 5th of March, the gallery invited man’s best friend to come and have a look and sniff around their exhibition. Pigs and Sheep and Beasts (on show until the 12th of March 2023), eight artists present a visual motivational speech that will help different animals to become “employee of the year”. The exhibitions also explores how different species that previously have been excluded from process of labour could possibly participate.
