Specially for Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen the artist William Engelen (lives and works in Berlin and Rotterdam) has developed the composition ‘Verstrijken voor ensemble’. The sound piece can be experienced live and as a sound installation in a specially designed concert space in the form of the body of a stringed instrument.

Engelen wrote a composition for nine instruments based on the biorhythms of the musicians. A week’s daily activities, rhythms and patterns have been translated into music and a graphic score that fills an entire gallery.

‘Verstrijken voor ensemble’ will be performed by musicians several times during the day-long programme of activities accompanying the opening of the museum’s new season on Saturday 12 January 2008.
