Ahmad Hosni - Ahmad Hosni

Born in Cairo, Egypt. He studied medicine with a specialization in Nuclear Medicine. After practising medicine for three years, he decided to pursue photography as a fulltime occupation. Since 2003 he has been working as a fulltime photographer in a variety of fields ranging from documentary, fashion, editorial, photojournalism, fine-art and commercial. He has worked for a variety of local and international publications and clients like Times, Monocle, Bidoun, Business Week, Corriere Della Sera, Symantec, Panos Pictures among others. Lately Ahmad has been focusing on documentary photography. He aspires to blend the aesthetics of different photographic genres with the aim to bring documentary photography beyond the confines of the newsroom and the art institution/gallery. His latest solo exhibition titled “The Odd One Out” was held at the Townhouse Gallery in March 2008. Currently Ahmad is engrossed in a hybrid book project titled “Go Down, Moses”, focusing on the effects of tourism on the social space in the Sinai Peninsula. The project aims at introducing the photobook as means of social commentary and change to foster a new visuality in Egypt and the Middle East.
