Aquaponics Meeting # 21

5 aug 2012

The Aquaponics Group spent Tuesday at our Vijzelstraat location doing some repairs on the new tower. We fixed the syphons and found the problem to be that there were too few openings and that they were not cut wide enough. The height of the grow beds were adjusted and the pebble dust was flushed out. Finally, both the pumps and the LED lights were replaced. The spectrum of these new lights are 440 nm (blue led) and 655 nm(red led), emitting the perfect frequencies of light for the plant’s growth and photosynthesis. We used two strips of 36W per level, giving a photosynthetic photon flux density (ppfd) of 177.8 umol/m²s per light.

Sunday the Aquaponics Group will be meeting at the Fabriek for basic water testing and system maintenance. A new part for one of our pumps finally arrived at the office so we will be repairing that as well.
