Dr. Shanti Ganesh is a member of the Townsend Center for the Humanities at UC Berkeley. The Dutch scientist received an M.Sc. degree in Cognitive Psychology from Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands, her M.A. degree in Public Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands, and a Ph.D. in 2013 with a thesis on gamers' self-identification with avatars. Dr. Ganesh uses role-playing-game (RPG) 'gamers' who strongly identify with a non-physical character (so-called avatar) to dissociate physical and mental aspects of the "self" within the fMRI environment.
