Take a Stand

On Ascension Day 2014, we’ll take a stand, literally. Come to Mediamatic for a course to learn to really stand. Then join Hubbub, a game-design bureau hailing from Utrecht and Berlin, at the festive launch of their newest app Standing. This app challenges playful activism and protest. Take a stand for anything that’s on your mind and people from different parts of the world will join you to do the same.

The application challenges playful activism and protest. Take a stand for anything important that’s on your mind and people from different parts of the world will join you to do the same. During Take a Stand we will be able to see all the standing-activity with the help of a Tactical Display made possible by Hubbub. You can get the app in the iTunes-store and read about on the the Hubbub-blog.

This ‘stand-in’ is a reflection on the events in Turkey in the summer of 2013, but as an contemporary act, also related to the famous sit-ins in the Seventies.

Lightness

Take a Stand is part of the Lightness events of Mediamatic: eleven weeks with eleven exhibitions and artists. During the ‘stand-in’ Mediamatic is full of modern ex-votos, drawings and texts , and aggregated by artist Richtje Reinsma, dedicated to higher powers.

To conclude the evening full of standing and ex-voto’s, writer and designer Dirk Vis, will hand out pamphlets to evoke the autonomous use of the ‘Standing’ app.

Free entrance for Mediamatic members. Mediamatic, VOC-kade 10, Oostenburg Amsterdam. The event takes place during Richtje Reinsma's week of Lightness. With a ticket for Take a Stand, you can also visit the The Higher Office.
