Donald [Haarlem, 1978] graduated from The Hague’s Royal Academy of Art [Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten]. Specialisation: Graphic and typographic design .
2001 - 2002
He was an intern at Philips Design and was involved with several typographic projects; he then worked for the academy’s own studio. After receiving an invitation of his former teacher Petr van Blokland, he left the studio to work at Buro Petr van Blokland + Claudia Mens.
2002 - 2003
Study & Research
It was there where Donald became familiar with the theoretical approach of graphic design and the development of corporate websites. The idea to combine practical design with theory inspired Donald to study again, this time Culture & Media at the University of Amsterdam.
2003 - ....
Since 2003 Donald Roos has lived and worked as an independent designer in Amsterdam [Otherways 5th Floor Studio]. Donald works on commercial assignments and autonomous projects, applying both a theoretical and practical approach.
Beside working as an independent as well as a freelance (typographic)designer Donald is teacher Visual Interface Design at the University of Rotterdam. He is also a parttime teacher at the Art Academy of Tilburg. On an invitation of the new particulair design institute VIDE, Donald has given a workshop on typedesign for three weeks. Since Spring 2007 he is also teaching experimental typography at the Willem de Kooning Academy.
Recent clients are: De Nederlandsche Bank [The Dutch National Bank], Erasmus University Rotterdam, Government of Amsterdam-Noord [Nieuwendam-Noord], several recruitment agencies, Ninaber van Eyben. In assignment of Chunk|id Donald has worked for Vodafone en Hema [a famous Dutch warehouse].
