The Mold Fight Begins!

Our first mold battle

Our newest installation at the Paddestoelen Paradijs exhibition is a tiny agar-filled stadium where we will host mold fights. The first fight will be between our visitor Marco's bacteria and the elusive and extremely intelligent slime mold we have been growing and cultivating in the Mediamatic clean room.

Marco

During Museum Nacht 2011, we collected the bacterial and fungal imprints of our visitors on petri-dishes and made it into a collaborative installation. We let our visitor's bacteria grow, but lately it's been sitting around waiting patiently for its day in the spotlight, and now its time has come! We will take the bacteria from the petri-dishes and put it on some fresh agar to grow strong for each match. The first worthy opponent to step into the ring will be Marco Roling, whose bio-sample we collected during Museum Nacht.

Slime Mold

Marco's bacteria will be put into the stadium today to battle it out against the slime mold, which is known for its intelligence and extremely cunning tricks. Everything will be documented on a time-lapse camera for some handy play-by-play action.

The fight will last for one week, at which point the winner will be revealed. If Marco's bacteria beats the slime mold, he will be treated to complimentary beers at the Mediamatic Bank.
