Vision

The world of art and culture is changing. Classical ways of consuming culture make way for new practices. Especially the recent developments in new media enable us to approach the 21st century audience in other ways. It has become possible to challenge your audience, to invite them to participate and then allow them to share their experiences with an online community. At Kom je ook? (KJO) we have the necessary knowledge to recognize the latest trends and to anticipate them. And we are courageous enough to apply these innovations ourselves and thus inspire others in new practices of working.

Kom je ook?

Kom je ook? is a Dutch phrase that is often found on an invitation for a children's birthday party. It translates to "will you come?" and invites you to our symposium in a way that already indicates what you can expect. Because our event is not a simple line-up of speakers but an interactive program where the audience is expected to participate in all sorts of ways. It's a party!

What to expect

Four times a year the KJO symposium offers participants a full day program with a theme in line with the latest trends and developments in the cultural sector. Where national and international speakers offer the best practices right from the work floor. And that's exactly what KJO is all about, the practice. We won't offer you theoretical lectures but provide tangible examples of innovation and the implementation of new techniques in existing situations. In addition we offer a selection of workshops and interactive installations combined with refreshments. Community

Our community keeps growing. With every new edition (and we are up to the ninth) the number of members increases, both online and offline, on the website and at the symposia. Since january 2011 KJO has her own website, before that we were part of the Mediamatic network. However, we have grown so much that it was time for us to move out on our own. Our community can be found under mensen (which means 'people') and consists of the programmers, curators, conservators, educators and those who are simply interested in art, culture and heritage.

DOEN Pitch

The DOEN Foundation collaborates with KJO in the form of the DOEN Pitch. Leading up to the symposium cultural institutions and professionals can send us their ideas for innovation in the sector. DOEN then selects five of the best ideas and offers their creators the opportunity to pitch it during the symposium. The audience and judges then choose two winners and DOEN provides them with a clinic to elaborate their pitch and increase their chances for financing. Organisation

The symposium and all adjacent activities are organized by a dedicated group of professionals at Mediamatic and Deneuve cultural projects. At the top of this page you can find the names of all of those involved, together with a link to their personal profiles.
