Abandoned amusement park in the former East

Built in 1969, the amusement park in the luxurious Treptow district was a main attraction for East German families. It remained intact for another decade after the German reunification, but has since turned into something of a mythical ghost town.

The demise of the popular amusement park is an interesting story in and of itself, as documented in the 2009 film "Achterbahn". In 2002, the owners, plagued by debt, went to Peru in search of bettering their condition, taking six of their rides with them. The plan must have taken a wrong turn somewhere, culminating in the arrest of Mr. Witte and his son. 180 kg of cocaine were found in the rides, preparing to leave for Europe once again.

The park has been abandoned since 2002. The (non-incarcerated) Witte family still resides on the premises.
